At the crossroads of knowledge, sharing and engagement, the university offers a range of activities open to everyone. From the Université Tous Ages (University for All Ages) to the Boutique des sciences (The Science Shop), via accessible and participatory science outreach initiatives, everyone can explore, learn and contribute. Through Engage Green, the university also reaffirms its commitment to taking concrete action towards the ecological transition, by involving students, staff and citizens.

Le Musée des Moulages (Museum of castings)

Opened in 1899 as part of the University of Lyon, the Musée des Moulages is now housed in a former industrial building in the 3rd arrondissement. Originally dedicated to teaching art history and archaeology, it is now also a venue for engaging with and disseminating knowledge, open to the wider community.
Its exceptional collection comprises nearly 1,600 plaster casts, faithful, life-size copies of famous sculptures, bas-reliefs and statuettes. It reflects the evolution of Western sculpture from Archaic Greece to the 19th century. A selection of 200 casts is currently on display along a themed exhibition route.

L'Université Tous Ages (University for All Ages)

The UTA service is a department of Université Lumière Lyon 2 established 50 years ago, offering a programme of courses aimed at a broad adult audience.

The university has thus long been committed to disseminating scientific knowledge to a wide audience, engaging with the local community and interacting with the public both on campus and at external venues: in Lyon and in towns across the Lyon metropolitan area, as well as in the Rhône, Ain and Isère departments.

The courses on the UTA programme are delivered by academics who share their knowledge in their scientific fields and engage directly with the public through courses they have prepared specifically for the UTA audience. These courses, offered as one-off lectures or lecture series, enable participants to discover, explore and discuss a variety of topics, whilst promoting access to knowledge for all.

La Boutique des Sciences (The Science Shop)

Since 2013 at the University of Lyon and since 2021 at Université Lumière Lyon 2, the Science Shop has been fostering dialogue and collaboration between civil society organisations and scientific research bodies. It builds bridges across all fields of the humanities and social sciences, the natural sciences and engineering, keeping pace with the very latest research.

The Science Shop offers opportunities to experiment with new forms of research and teaching. It serves as a space for discussion and monitoring of new ways of producing knowledge, bringing together researchers, students and civil society actors.

Citizens, associations and local authorities are supported in their inquiries by researchers. In this context, it supports participatory research by offering internships, enabling students to collaborate with researchers to co-construct new knowledge. This work aims to provide concrete solutions to issues of general interest.

Science outreach

Science outreach: science with and for society!
The Science and Society Department is responsible for sharing and bringing scientific knowledge to life for everyone, at every stage of life. To this end, it organises science and cultural outreach activities, both on and off the university campuses, throughout the year. It coordinates the Université Lumière Lyon 2’s participation in major national events (Nuits de la lecture, Fête de la Science) and local events (Festival Entre Rhône et Saône), and supports researchers in promoting their work and producing outreach resources (comic books, podcasts, videos, games, etc.).

Environmental engagement projects

ENGAGEgreen
The ENGAGEgreen project aims to strengthen researchers’ knowledge, skills and expertise in political engagement on key issues such as the environment, the fight against climate change and digital transformation. By developing these skills, universities will be able to offer innovative training programmes in these fields.
ENGAGEgreen also runs initiatives designed to foster dialogue between the scientific and political spheres, with the aim of creating sustainable networks between the various stakeholders.

La Fabrique du Climat
As part of the Lyon 2030 project, the City of Lyon is creating an iconic venue dedicated to the ecological transition on the Neyret site, scheduled to open in 2027.  In anticipation of this future space, Lumière Lyon 2 University, in partnership with five local stakeholders, is developing an outreach programme entitled La Fabrique du Climat. This initiative offers a range of events centred on the themes of climate and resilience, with the aim of supporting the transition process from today.
